Oceanside Golfing in Punta Mita, Mexico at its best

Covering over 200 acres that overlook the spectacular Pacific coastline, Punta Mita Golf Club’s Par-72 Pacific Golf Course is one of the best in the world. Jack Nicklaus designed it to present unique challenges throughout the course. Also, it provides panoramic views of the exquisite coastline and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountain backdrop. And, this breathtaking golf course boasts the world’s only natural island green.

Opened in 1999, Punta Mita Golf Club is only 45-minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. And to describe the course, all of the fairways, tees, and roughs are covered with lush Bermuda T-419 grass. Then, the greens are topped with Champion Dwarf Bermuda, which is great for putting. Also, careful environmental planning went into every inch of this world-renowned golf course. So, read on to learn about this sensational course, and see just how exclusive it really is.

World’s only natural island green

One feature of this top-rated golf course really stands out. It’s Punta Mita Golf Club’s hole 3B, which is located on the only natural island green in the world. And, this island was given the nickname “The Tail of the Whale.” This name reflects its wonderful location to watch whales breach. During whale season, you won’t find anything more exhilarating than putting on this island while watching the whales breach.

There’s an exciting visual challenge to this magnificent shot. Located 199 yards from the back tee, you’ll drive your ball over the Pacific Ocean onto an island lined with rugged lava rock. What a thrill! And after you land your shot, there’s two ways to get over to the island. During low tide, you can simply drive your golf cart right to the island green. But, when high tide comes in, there’s an amphibious vehicle ready to float you over to the island. Then, it’ll drive you right to the green.

This pacific-edge golf course meets usga standards

At the Pacific Punta Mita golf course, you’ll enjoy wide fairways that flow over rolling hills lined with flowering landscapes. Plus, this 7104-yard course offers eight holes that border either the Pacific Ocean or Banderas Bay.

All greens at this course meet the United States Golf Association (USGA) standards. For example, these standards consist of four inches of gravel and 12 inches of mixed sand with field moss. Therefore, when you play golf at Punta Mita, you can rest assure that your game will always feel right.

Finally, the Punta Mita golf course challenges experienced golfers, yet entices beginners. You will not be disappointed!

Environmentally responsible

Punta Mita Golf Club features a computerized weather station that monitors ground moisture. This helps with water conservation by watering the greens and fairways only when needed. Also, organic fertilizers are used throughout the area. They’re environmentally safe and employ very little to no herbicides and insecticides. Next, only biodegradable insecticides are used on greens bordering the ocean. Finally, the natural vegetation and native grasses located in and around the golf course are all preserved and protected.

Exclusive and private

Now for the tough part. This private championship course isn’t publicly accessible. To be specific, it’s only open to residents, club members and guests within the Punta de Mita community. Fortunately, there is a way to play there, but you must have an invitation from a Punta de Mita resident. And, such an exclusive golf course only makes sense, since Punta de Mita, in Riviera Nayarit, is such a unique and exclusive gated community.
