Located on the northern edge of Puerto Vallarta, Marina Vallarta is like a resort within a resort. First, it comes with an exclusive Marina.  Also, this wonderful destination offers state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality services throughout.  Additionally, being home to Elizabeth Taylor, along with other VIPs, Marina Vallarta is much more than an upscale destination.  It’s a Mexican paradise that offers the best of everything.

Marina Vallarta has its own lighthouse that offers a panoramic view of the ocean and Marina along with the majestic Sierra Madre Mountain backdrop.  Then, another delightful attraction is the giant bronze whale sculpture at the entrance to the Marina.  It’s a beautiful depiction of a mother and baby whale that was installed in 2001 as a tribute to the whales that visit Banderas Bay each year.  Finally, discover the 18-hole championship golf course designed by Joe Finger who is now in the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.

Discover the Marina Vallarta resort

Only five minutes from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) and 15 minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta, this 544-acre master-planned resort and residential community is nothing short of amazing.  To be specific, Marina Vallarta is an up-scale enclave that boasts a 450-slip marina with slips ranging from 30-140 feet in length.  Also, it hosts many impressive yachts, sailboats and charter boats, along with a variety of private and rental water craft.  Then, the marina has an exquisite promenade that offers many shops, restaurants, delis, cafés, bakeries, spas, and a little supermarket.

The brief history of Marina Vallarta

During the 1980’s, investment opportunities in Mexico skyrocketed.  This was due to the US dollar and other world currencies having much greater purchasing power in Mexico during the time of peso devaluation.  Therefore, with Puerto Vallarta’s growing popularity, the population had almost doubled in this fantastic tourist destination over the course of that decade.

In the mid-1980’s, brothers Jorge and José Martínez Güitrón had just received payment for a massive electrical installation that their company completed.  So, these funds allowed them to make a strategic real-estate purchase on the north side of Puerto Vallarta.  After buying the land, they built the exclusive marina within Marina Vallarta in 1986.  Considered a risky purchase at the time, this investment provided a huge payoff for the two.  And, this development greatly enhanced Puerto Vallarta as a world-renowned tourist destination.

Play the championship Marina Vallarta Golf Course

Built in the early 1990’s, this mature golf course provides a pleasant tropical atmosphere.  There, you’ll find exotic animals and splendid views of the Pacific Ocean, Banderas Bay, and the beautiful Sierra Madre mountains.

Since some holes are near the sea, the wind challenges golfers a bit.  To describe the course, its fairways are narrow, and its greens are sometimes slow and tricky to interpret.  Also, the play varies considerably throughout the day.  For example, during the afternoon, the wind and sun can radically affect your score.  Lastly, as a tip, keep in mind the challenging jump on the 12th hole.

Designed by a Texas Golf Hall of Famer

This 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Joe Finger, who’s courses are among the best engineered in the business.  For example, the routing of his courses fit the land and his courses are efficiently irrigated and drain very well.  And, he was entered in the Texas Golf Hall of Fame on October 10th, 2016 to honor his accomplishments in golf.

“A Houston native, Finger, who passed away in 2003 will be honored in the Lifetime Achievement category. He spent 45 years as an architect designing courses all over the world” – From the Press release on Texas Golf Hall of Fame.
